Back for a second year with a new twist. We're once again dedicating a weekend to the dance craze that started right in our own backyard and swept the nation and the world. This year we'll be looking at two aspects of the dance known as the Big Apple. We'll Spend Saturday learning the routine choreographed by the late Frankie Manning. Then on Sunday we'll look at some of the steps that were most likely done on the dance floor in the Big Apple where the dance got it's name. You're not going to want to miss this chance to relive part of dance history.
For those of you who faithfully check the PSDA website you've noticed a great lack in information on this page. I apologize for the absence. Hopefully you've kept up with us on Facebook.
We're redoubling our effort to keep this website up to date so while it may slip a little bit now and then it should stay up to date.
Please sign up for our mailing list on the sidebar to your right. You can also follow us on facebook.
Of course we dance at Gotham Bagel Cafe every Monday Night. On top of all of that we also have several weekend events planned for the rest of this year.
Starting friday night with some non-dancing fun we're hosting a movie night. We've got a 8 foot screen and a kicking 5.1 surround sound system in our personal theatre. And just in case you just have to dance. There are hardwood floors throughout a good portion of the house.
Following it up on saturday, we'll have two sets of three hour workshops covering a myriad of topics. Saturday night we'll all be chowing down at a cookout, and then to finish off the night we'll be dancing at Arsenal Hill Community Center.
We'll be sending out more information in the next few weeks. So keep an eye here, on facebook, and your email.
South Carolina is rich in dancing history including the home of the dance craze, the Big Apple. Join us as we celebrate this heritage. On Saturday we're bringing Michelle Postles and Terrace Ellis up from Atlanta to teach the version of the Big Apple that Frankie Manning choreographed for the movie "Keep Punching". Then on Sunday we'll be revisiting the Big Apple that inspired that choreography. We'll learn lots of jazz steps that were used in the social version of the Big Apple.
Did I forget to mention that we'll be dancing in the original Big Apple dance hall on the original hardwood floors that people danced on back in the 1930's when the Big Apple dance was being formed and performed.
Don't miss out on this chance to relive part of swing dancing history.
We are partnering with Gotham Bagel Cafe in an effort to bring the arts and culture back to the Main Street area. We meet on Monday and Thursday each week at Gotham Bagel Cafe. On Mondays we'll continue our normal lessons and dance schedule and on Thursdays we'll dance to live jazz music.
There are a lot of great plans in the making and we promise to let you know everything that's coming up as soon as we can. Until then we look forward to seeing you downtown for more awesome Lindy Hop action.
